MBFWP15: Florae by Tony Vergara

Hola a todos! Continuando con lo que he denominado la saga del MBFWP15 toca hacer la entrada sobre la pasarela del diseñador Tony Vergara. Como les comenté en artículos anteriores este año hubieron eventos alternos a los que se desarrollan en las instalaciones del Centro de Convenciones ATLAPA, esta pasarela fue otro de ellos y tuve la oportunidad de asistir. 

La colección del diseñador, quien otrora fuera parte del dúo Vergara & Vergara, llevó como título Florae, esta propuesta según las notas que compartieron con los asistentes esta inspirada  en una mujer que se adapta a los cambios, este particular supuesto es un escenario futuro donde el cambio climático alteró la estructura de la fauna y la flora. Y la humanidad carece de los recursos más vitales.

Las formas de la indumentaria registran ese proceso de adaptación de la mujer tomando referencias de los años 20 a la actualidad, algo que si pude notar a lo largo de la colección y que el diseñador ha denominado como "Etapas Florales". De la propuesta también me sorprendieron mucho los colores que ha utilizado pues en sus trabajos anteriores su paleta solía encontrar el norte hacia los tonos clásicos para las lineas invernales y pasteles durante las muestras primaverales; en esta ocasión predominaron variedad de colores como el rojo, naranja y amarillo en sus tonalidades más vibrantes lo que le brindaba un aspecto muy juvenil y enérgico a la colección. 

Entrando en materia, tuve diversas consideraciones sobre esta presentación ya que por un lado aplaudo el hecho de que esta marca busque la forma de adaptarse a una estética moderna y versátil, algo que en el momento que se hizo conocida para mi no estaba tan trabajado. Por otro lado también admiro que este diseñador no se conforma con hacer piezas eminentemente comerciales y trata siempre de inyectar una infusión de su amor por el arte a todo lo que hace. Aunque hubiera preferido más en materia de ambientación el hecho que fuera una de las primeras marcas que presentar colección como parte del fashion week Panamá fuera del área de pasarela en el ATLAPA es algo a resaltar. Ademas que el sitio donde se realizó, el lobby de Torres de las Américas, es sin duda un lugar impresionante en su propio derecho.

Si hay algo que admiro de sus piezas es el trabajo que se hace en materia artesanal encontrando la forma de convertir pequeñas cuentas en hermosos trabajos florales, algo que se ha ido trabajando conforme el tiempo y con diferentes materiales como se puede notar en una pieza de denim. La inclusión de prendas más deportivas y menos restrictivas al cuerpo también probó ser un punto favorecedor en su propuesta. Algo que me hubiera gustado ver más es el uso de crochet el cual es un tipo de trabajo que no se suele ver mucho en colecciones nacionales por el clima que tenemos aunque siempre he pensado que todo tiene una forma de adaptarse.

La marca también estaba colaborando con el gigante deportivo Nike siendo este patrocinador del calzado de las modelos. Esta colaboración le brindo la posibilidad al diseñador de modificar las zapatillas agregando detalles florales, un sello característico de su marca.

Mentiría si digo que todo fue perfecto, me resultó algo difícil comprender la narrativa que me estaba intentando contar con las prendas de acuerdo a la inspiración ya que en una nota personal no sentí la conexión que estoy seguro debería, también creo que la velocidad de la trayectoria de las modelos fue demasiado rápida complicando a los asistentes realmente poder apreciar el trabajo que se estaba presentado (pienso que es algo que funciona mejor cuando la pasarela tiene más extensión). Creo también que la distribución de las filas del público pudo ser mas beneficiosa ya que aquellos que estaban en la quinta fila difícilmente tenían la misma oportunidad de ver la colección como los de adelante (potenciado por el hecho que todas las filas estaban al nivel del piso), aunque ese asunto puede que tuviera cierto nivel de complicación por disposiciones del mismo local.

Aclaro que no pretendo restarle méritos al trabajo que se realizó y que los comentarios los hago con la única intención de claridad en mi escritura y de mantener la sinceridad constructiva en un medio donde muchas veces se suele reír de frente y apuñalar de espaldas. Pero sobre todo de utilizar mi medio para que en alguna medida, grande o pequeña, pueda ser de ayuda a los talentos jóvenes de mi país en quienes creo y espero lleguen a ser representantes dignos de la moda panameña. No pretendo creer que todo lo que digo sea una razón absoluta pero si mi sinceridad le sirve a alguien entonces se que aunque algunos puedan no estar de acuerdo cumplo mi propósito de ayudar en la medida de lo posible.

Hello everyone! Continuing what I´ve been calling the saga of MBFWP15 its time to make the entry on the runway from designer Tony Vergara. As I mentioned in previous articles this year there were alternate events than the ones that take place in the premises of the Atlapa Convention Center, this show was one of them and had I the opportunity to attend.

The collection of the designer, who once was part of the duo Vergara & Vergara, was titled Florae this proposal as the notes shared with the audience suggest is inspired by a woman who adapts to changes, particularly in a future scenario where climate change altered the structure of the fauna and flora. And humanity lacks its most vital resources.

The forms of the clothing recorded the process of adaptation of women taking references from the 20s to the present, something that I noticed throughout the collection and that the designer has dubbed "Floral Stages". The offering also surprised me because of the colors used, in their previous works the color palette find its north to the classic shades for winter and pastels for the spring lines; this time prevailed a variety of colors like red, orange and yellow in their most vibrant hues which offered a youthful and energetic look to the collection.

Moving on, I had various remarks on this runway because on one hand I applaud the fact that this brand find ways to adapt to a modern and versatile aesthetic, something that at the time it was made known to me was not so worked. On the other hand I also admire that this designer is not satisfied just making eminently commercial pieces and always tries to inject an infusion of his love of art to everything he does. Although I would have preferred more on the decor departmente I have to single out the fact that it is one of the first brands to exhibit a collection as part of Fashion Week Panama outside the runway area at the ATLAPA it´s something to highlight. I need to add that the site where it took place, the lobby of Torres de las Americas, is certainly an impressive place in its own right.

Something that I really appreciate from the brand is its artisanal work using beads to creat the most beautiful floral motifs, a work that has been evolving in the brand as time pases proved by an interesting denim piece which it might not be entirely sucessfull but it is a great step forward. Also the inclusion of sportswear and less body restrictive pieces proved to be a favorable point for the brand. Something I would´ve loved to see devoloped even more was the corchet work which is very uncommon in panamanian collections since our country´s climate is not that forgiving with the heat thought I do believe everyhting can be adapted.

The brand was also collaborating with the sports giant Nike who sponsored the footwear for the models. This collaboration gave the designer the possibility of modifying the shoe adding floral details, a hallmark of their brand.

I would lie if I say that everything was perfect, I had somewhat difficult to understand the narrative which he was trying to tell me with the garments according to the inspiration and on a personal note that I did not feel they were that connection, I also believe that the speed of the trajectory of the models was too quick complicating the audience appreciation of the work that was being presented (I think it's something that works better when the runway has more extension). I also believe that the distribution of the seating could be more beneficial as those in the fifth row hardly had the same opportunity to see the collection as the frontrowers (enhanced by the fact that all rows were at ground level), although this issue may have had some level of complication by regulations of the premises.

I clarify that I do not intend to detract from the work that was done and the comments that I make are with the sole intention of clarity in my writing and maintaining constructive sincerity in an environment where people often laugh at your face and stab you in the back. But mostly to use my medium to some extent, large or small, so that it can be helpful to young talents in my country who I believe and hope become worthy representatives of Panamanian fashion. I do not pretend to believe that everything I say is an absolute truth, but if my sincerity serves someone then although some may disagree I am fulfilling my purpose which is to help in any way I can.

I love that clock is just so inconic to me...it towers over everything in its way and it just highlights the whole place.

This to me is the perfect example of how a modern artistic collection should be done half & half...that skirt overall inside in that kicking orange tone is just great.

I really admire his handpaint is quite beautiful to be honest.

This is a really nice piece, very wearable and has a nice color. I´d actually love it more if the yellow tone underneath popped out a bit more here and there it would certainly give it an extra punch.

This glasses are everything! I just love them so much!!

A bit of a vintage silhouette. I do believe the skirt might be a little more hard to wear...it will prove great for the brand if they can find that unique balance in doing a fantastic artistic collection that is still completely wearable. This is no easy feat and it takes years of refining design skills but like I said this is talent I believe in so i´m very hopeful.

I love me denim anything....you know designers in Panama should use more denim...you know is awesome!

This piece was a favourite of mine (sadly the full picture turned out hideous). 

Really commend the modernity of this garment..I actually think the graffiti could have been bigger and a little highlight color would´ve just made it more graphic and really stand out....but that´s just personal taste.

Of course Nike was also part of the show with a range of floralized sneakers....I saw some people already doing the "take my money now" face, hope they do get them...I can totally understand the need for a shoe...Totally.
