¡Hola mis queridos lectores! Como ya es, casi, una tradición el final de la semana de moda panameña ve su cierre con la pasarela en locación del diseñador Tony Vergara; si bien el año pasado la presentación entraba dentro del cronograma del FWP este año fue independiente y tuvo como patrocinador oficial a la revista Prime Life & Style, publicación con que el diseñador ha realizado varios proyectos a lo largo del año.
El año pasado lo mencioné y vuelvo a repetirlo me encanta que haya una pasarela en locación/exterior al final del FWP ya que aunque este año no me fue posible asistir basándome en todas las ediciones anteriores es un buen descanso después de tres días, y horas, adentro de un centro de convenciones. La verdad genera una cierta emoción esperar a que se revele el lugar, pensar en el atuendo según el sitio y el simple hecho de ir a ver todo es algo que me resulta fenomenal. Ojalá más diseñadores se atrevan y obtengan el apoyo necesario para hacer pasarelas o presentaciones independientes pues es una dinámica que llena de una particular energía la semana de la moda panameña.
Hello my dear readers! As it is, almost, a tradition the end of the Panamanian fashion week sees its closure with the runway show at a location of designer Tony Vergara; although last year the presentation was part of the FWP schedule this time around it was an independent affair which had as an official sponsor Prime Life & Style magazine, a publication with which the designer has made several projects throughout the year.
Last year I mentioned this and it bears repeating that runway shows in location/exterior at the end of the FWP are amazing, and while I was not able to attend this year based on all the previous editions it is a good rest after three days, and hours , inside a convention center. The truth is it generates a certain emotion to wait for the place to be revealed, to think about the outfit according to the site and the simple fact of going to see everything is something that is phenomenal to me. Hopefully more designers dare and get the necessary support to make independent runways or presentations because it is a dynamic that fills the Panamanian fashion week with a particular energy.
Una de mis cosas favoritas de las pasarelas de Tony es que no solo busca lugares bellos sino que posean una cierta historia, ya sea que conecte con la inspiración de su colección y/o con nuestro hermoso país. El año pasado utilizó como escenario la mezcla de arquitectura moderna y paisaje natural del Biomuseo, mientras que en el 2015 su colección estuvo enmarcada por el imponente domo del edificio Torres de las Américas y su icónico reloj. Este año nos llevó al jardín interno del Museo de Arte Religioso que con su arquitectura rustica colonial a un costado y las ruinas del Arco Chato al otro dejaron muy claro que esta colección llevaba el nombre de Panamá bordado en su inspiración.
One of my favorite things about Tony's catwalks is that he does not only looks for beautiful places but also those that have a certain history, whether they connect with the inspiration of his collection and/or with our beautiful country. Last year he used the mix of modern architecture and natural landscape of the Biomuseo as a stage, while in 2015 his collection was framed by the imposing dome of the Torres de las Américas building and its iconic towering clock. This year he took us to the inner garden of the Museum of Religious Art that with its rustic colonial architecture on one side and the ruins of the Arco Chato on the other made it very clear that this collection had Panama embroidered in its inspiration.
La colección titulada Arbórealiz estuvo inspirada en referencias culturales de la fauna y flora panameña teniendo como principal color el verde en múltiples tonalidades que hacían remembranza a la exótica vegetación selvática del Tapón del Darién, acompañado de tonos rosas y lavandas creando un hermoso contraste de color que conserva el aspecto femenino y etéreo de la marca. La vanguardia se hizo presente en las siluetas de la colección que tomó como referencia a la mujer panameña de finales de 1880 con trabajos de volumen en mangas y ruedos, así como faldas amplias y siluetas con visos de austeridad modernizada en diseños elegantes en algodones, sedas y tejidos con transparencia. Con esta colección el diseñador también introduce oficialmente su línea masculina la cual formará parte regular de todas sus propuestas a futuro.
The collection titled Arbórealiz was inspired by cultural references of the Panamanian fauna and flora having green as its main color in multiple shades that made remembrance to the exotic vegetation of the Darién jungle, accompanied by pink and lavender tones creating a beautiful color contrast that retains the feminine and ethereal appearance of the brand. The contemporary angle was present in the silhouettes of the collection that took as a reference the Panamanian woman of the late 1880s with volume work on sleeves and hems, as well as wide skirts and silhouettes with modern austerity visions in elegant designs made from cotton, silks and flowy sheer fabrics. With this collection the designer also officially introduces his male line which will be a regular part of all his offerings in the future.
Algo que ha hecho conocida la marca de Tony Vergara es su particular enfoque en los bordados tipo joya y sus accesorios los cuales siempre llevan un trabajo bastante detallado. En esta ocasión tomando como inspiración la herencia de la monarcas españolas, los símbolos precolombinos, reptiles e insectos de la selva el diseñador desarrollo bordados artesanales, realizados por indígenas Guna, que se hicieron presente a lo largo de la colección tanto en la ropa como en la joyería acompañante creando un glamour contemporáneo que recordaba la distante opulencia de los 1800´s.
Something that has made Tony Vergara's brand known is its particular focus on jewel embroidery and its accessories which always carry a fairly detailed job. On this occasion taking as inspiration the heritage of the Spanish monarchs, the pre-Columbian symbols, reptiles and insects of the jungle, the designer developed handmade embroidery, made by our Gunas, that was present throughout the collection both in clothing and in the accompanying jewelry creating a contemporary glamour that recalled the distant opulence of the 1800's.
Esta propuesta posee elementos que nos recuerdan a las colecciones pasadas del diseñador con estos diseños un poco más dramáticos, diría que a momentos hasta vi trazos de la época en que la marca era Vergara & Vergara junto a su hermano. Sin embargo, es indudable que Tony con el paso de los años se ha ido acoplando a lo que la moda es hoy día creando diseños muy versátiles que hacen notar que como creador esta tomando muy en cuenta las necesidades de la mujer panameña, inclusive latinoamericana de forma general, en invertir en prendas con identidad que al mismo tiempo expanda la belleza estética y funcionalidad de su guardarropa. Con la introducción de la línea masculina se ha embarcado a la tarea de definir y darle a nivel de indumentaria un estilo de vida al hombre que habita en el universo de su marca. Estoy muy interesado en ver como se desarrolla este aspecto de su diseño.
This proposal has elements that remind us of the designer's past collections with these slightly more dramatic designs, I would say that at times I even saw traces of the time when the brand was Vergara & Vergara which he designed alongside his brother. However, it is unquestionable that Tony over the years has been paying attention to what fashion is today creating very versatile designs that point out that as a creator he is taking into account the needs of Panamanian and Latin American women to invest in clothes with identity that at the same time expand the aesthetic beauty and functionality of their wardrobe. With the introduction of the men's line, he has embarked on the task of defining and giving a lifestyle to the man who lives in the universe of his brand. I am very interested in seeing how this aspect of his design develops.
Este año ha sido excelente para el diseño latinoamericano el cual ha tenido mucha prominencia en mi blog y es por eso que estos meses restantes del 2019 van a estar enfocados en su totalidad en el diseño panameño y latino. This year has been excellent for Latin American design which has had a lot of prominence in my blog and that is why these remaining months of 2019 will be focused entirely on Panamanian and Latin design. For my next entries I will continue with the second part of my special Panama 500 series, local events and I will end the year with my list of the best Latin American collections of 2019. Stay tuned!
