¡Hola a tod@s! Después de unos días libres por fiestas patrias retomo mis actividades del blog continuando con las entradas sobre el Fashion Week Panamá 2019. Con esta nota culmino mis reseñas sobre las pasarelas presentadas en el Centro de Convenciones ATLAPA y debo decir que ha sido toda una experiencia conseguir las imágenes pues algunos fotógrafos no han podido colaborar por ciertos compromisos, otros no han querido y algunos diseñadores nunca contestaron mis mensajes jaja. Pero al menos ya me queda de experiencia y el próximo año voy a estar más que preparado.
Como una nota especial debo agregar que me ha encantado la cobertura que ciertos medios han realizado sobre las colecciones del FWP, en particular el especial de Oye (Estilo Humano + Red Carpet) que me pareció es precisamente el tipo de programa que la moda panameña viene necesitando con personas del medio que analicen las colecciones, conozcan las historias de los diseñadores y no teman hacer criticas constructivas. Espero se siga repitiendo todos los años. También debo resaltar el hermoso editorial de Revista Debut con diseño nacional y local, no dudo que en los próximos meses veremos más editoriales con colecciones del FWP.
Hello everyone! After a few days off for national holidays I resume my blog activities continuing with the entries on Fashion Week Panama 2019. With this note I finish my reviews on the catwalks presented at the ATLAPA Convention Center and I must say that it has been an experience to get the images because some photographers have not been able to collaborate due to certain commitments, others have not wanted and some designers never answered my messages haha. But at least I already have insight on what to do and next year I will be more than prepared.
As a special note I must add that I loved the coverage that certain media have made on the collections of the FWP, in particular the special from Oye (Estilo Humano + Red Carpet) that I thought is precisely the type of program that Panamanian fashion needs, people from the environment who analyze the collections, know the stories of the designers and are not afraid to make constructive criticisms. I hope it keeps repeating every year. I must also highlight the beautiful editorial of Debut Magazine with national and local design, I have no doubt that in the coming months we will see more amazing editorials with FWP collections.

Darcé - Evolución - SS20.
La diseñadora presentó su segunda colección después de un exitoso debut que realizó por su cuenta en unas islas artificiales cerca de una de las áreas más lujosas de Panamá. En esta ocasión su propuesta inspirada en la naturaleza cambiante de la mujer, que ella describe como un viaje o un proceso de evolución, estuvo marcada por hermosos diseños en seda, brocados y estampados con detalles de plisados, vuelos, flecos y brillos. La colección estuvo acompañada de una colaboración con diez artistas locales que intervinieron maletines plasmando la personalidad de cada uno en ellos, esta iniciativa no solo se adhiere a la temática de la colección sino que es una muestra de la belleza que resulta de la unión entre moda y arte. Los accesorios de la colección estuvieron a cargo de la marca No Diploma. Como una anotación diría que para la próxima este un poco pendiente de la elección de algunas telas que si bien no eran malas no siempre cumplían su cometido de resaltar la cualidad de ciertos diseños.
The designer presented her second collection after a successful debut that she made on her own in some manmade islands near one of the most luxurious areas of Panama. On this occasion her proposal inspired by the changing nature of women, which she describes as a journey or a process of evolution, was marked by beautiful designs in silk, brocades and prints with details of pleats, ruffles, fringes and glitter. The collection was accompanied by a collaboration with ten local artists who intervened briefcases expressing the personality of each one in them, this initiative not only adheres to the theme of the collection but is a sample of the beauty that results from the union between fashion and art. The accessories of the collection were in charge of the No Diploma brand. As an annotation I would say that for the next one I´d love a little more attention in the choice of some fabrics that although they were not bad they did not always fulfill their task of highlighting the quality of certain garments.
Pilar Sáinz - Velásquez 27 - FW20.
Panamá es un país tropical así que ver colecciones de invierno es sin duda algo muy extraño pero eso fue exactamente lo que la diseñadora Pilar Saínz mostró en el primer día de pasarelas. Titulada Velásquez 27 haciendo referencia al icónico sitio donde ha re-abierto su atelier en Madrid la diseñadora presentó una colección elegante con siluetas que mayormente recordaban a los vestidos de los años 30 y 40. Esta marca tiene ya una clientela solida que gusta de los diseños clásicos y de excelente confección de Pilar aunque debo decir que en ocasiones la estética vintage era tan fuerte que realmente hacia ver algunos trajes como si fueran de otra época, especialmente casi al final de la presentación.
En su nota de prensa la diseñadora reveló que esta cambiando la dirección de su marca hacia un nivel de producción más sostenible vigilando no obtener telas hechas con químicos que dañen el ambiente y reutilizando pieles. Esto último causó un poco de controversia en las redes pues leyendo algunos comentarios, reacciones y en conversaciones algunas personas no sintieron que el mensaje de sostenibilidad, con el uso de pieles, se transmitió de manera efectiva. Yo no estoy aquí para juzgar a nadie, lo único que puedo comentar sobre eso es que si es una iniciativa que es importante para la diseñadora entonces esta bien, claro siempre se puede investigar y mejorar pero mientras el deseo de hacer las cosas de una mejor manera exista tiene el derecho de explorar sus posibilidades y lo mejor para su marca. El tema de la sostenibilidad en la moda es algo muy presente y que definitivamente tocaré más adelante en el blog cuando haya estudiado un poco más sobre el mismo.
Panama is a tropical country, so seeing winter collections is certainly something very strange but that was exactly what the designer Pilar Saínz showed on the first day of runways. Titled Velásquez 27 referring to the iconic site where she has re-opened her atelier in Madrid the designer presented an elegant collection with silhouettes that mostly reminded of the dresses from the 30s and 40s. This brand already has a solid clientele that likes Pilar's classic design and excellent confection, although I must say that sometimes the vintage aesthetic was so strong that it really made it look as if they were from another era, especially almost at the end of the presentation.
In her press release, the designer revealed that she is changing the direction of her brand towards a more sustainable level of production, taking care not to obtain fabrics made with chemicals that damage the environment and reusing leather & furs. The latter caused a bit of controversy in the social media because reading some comments, reactions and in conversations some people did not feel that the message of sustainable, with the use of skins, came across effectively. I am not here to judge anyone, the only thing I can comment on that is that if it is an initiative that is important for the designer then it is fine, of course you can always investigate and improve but while the desire to do things better exists you have the right to explore your possibilities and the best for your brand. The issue of sustainability in fashion is something very present and that I will definitely elaborate later in the blog when I have studied a little more about it.
Lidia Minota - Fairy Tales - SS20.
La diseñadora Lidia Minota se ha convertido ya en parte regular del calendario de moda panameño y en esta ocasión nos presenta una colección de Alta Moda ostentando detalles fabricados a mano en su atelier. Esta colección retoma el aspecto más risueño y delicado de su marca utilizando colores claros y suaves, con un ocasional toque de color con rojos, verdes y neones. Los trajes llevaron aplicaciones de flores, encajes y plumas sobre tul y transparencias que creaban una vibra romántica, etérea, con toques de glamour y un espíritu bohemio. Si bien no es mi colección favorita de la diseñadora, esa lugar lo sigue ocupando la colección Bloom, fue una buena presentación que definitivamente encantó a las presentes y no dudo que será un éxito con su clientela local e internacional.
Designer Lidia Minota has already become a regular part of the Panamanian fashion calendar and this time she presents us a High Fashion collection showing handmade details crafted in her atelier. This collection takes up the most cheerful and delicate look of her brand using light and soft hues, with an occasional pop of color in reds, greens and neons. The garments displayed floral, lace and feather applications on tulle and transparencies that created a romantic, ethereal vibe, with touches of glamor and a bohemian spirit. Although it is not my favorite collection of the designer, that place is still occupied by the Bloom collection, it was a good presentation that definitely enchanted those present and I do not doubt that it will be a success with her local and international clientele.
Natalie Marie Muller - Gemini - SS20.
Otro de los debuts esperados de este año fue el de la diseñadora Natalie Marie Muller de quien honestamente no sabía que esperar dado que era la única creadora del grupo que no había presentado una colección previa y lo que logré ver en sus redes eran diseños a medida. Debo decir que me sorprendí bastante dado que guiándome de lo que vi de sus diseños a medida, los cuales considero son mas delicados y románticos, y de ver a una 'influencer' vestida de su marca en un atuendo bastante moderno pensaba que quizás esa sería la vibra de la colección pero me llevé una sorpresa pues presentó una de las propuestas más dramáticas de todo el FWP.
Las piezas estaban bastante trabajadas y casi todos los diseños tenían proporciones 'oversize', creo que fue una colección muy interesante y aplaudo el hecho que se aventurara a crear prendas con tanto volumen. Si bien se podían encontrar piezas increíbles y que pondrían el toque único a un estilismo, siento que otras piezas carecían un poco de modernidad y no sé si esa fue la intención pero no creo que necesariamente aportó algo a la colección. No podría decir que identifico a precisión el estilo de Natalie pero viendo sus entrevistas me doy cuenta que es una diseñadora que no tiene un proceso de diseño igual que el resto así que será muy interesante ver como construye la identidad de su marca a futuro.
Another of the expected debuts of this year was that of designer Natalie Marie Muller who I honestly did not know what to expect since she was the only creator of the group that had not presented a previous collection and what I managed to see in her networks were custom designs. I must say that I was quite surprised given that guiding myself of what I saw of her custom designs, which I consider to be more delicate and romantic, and seeing an 'influencer' dressed in her brand in a fairly modern outfit, I thought that maybe those would be the vibes of the collection but I was surprised because she presented one of the most dramatic proposals of the entire FWP.
The pieces were quite worked and almost all the designs had 'oversize' proportions, I think it was a very interesting collection and I applaud the fact that she ventured in creating garments with such volume. Although incredible pieces could be found that would put the unique touch to any styling, I feel that other pieces lacked a bit of modernity and I don't know if that was the intention but I don't think it necessarily contributed something to the collection. I could not say that I accurately identify Natalie's style but seeing her interviews I realize that she is a designer who does not have a design process like the rest, so it will be very interesting to see how she builds the identity of her brand in the future.
Creo que este año se presentaron colecciones muy buenas que han mostrado el crecimiento que el diseño de moda tiene en Panamá, si bien aún falta camino por recorrer creo que los nuevos diseñadores que vienen con una estética fresca y con muchas ansias de demostrar lo que pueden hacer, las curadurias que es innegable han ayudado a guiar a los creadores y la voluntad de todos de querer mejorar para poder llegar al nivel de grandes en el diseño latinoamericano como México y Colombia han sido condiciones instrumentales en el desarrollo del diseño panameño. El camino sigue y yo solo puedo decir que estoy muy emocionado por que siento van a suceder cosas muy buenas en los próximos años.
I think that this year there were very good collections that have shown the growth that fashion design has in Panama, although there is still a long way to go I think the new designers that come with a fresh aesthetic and eager to show what they can do, the curatorships that undeniably have helped guide the creators and the will of everyone that want to improve in order to reach the level of greats in Latin American design such as Mexico and Colombia have been instrumental conditions in the development of Panamanian design. The road continues and I can only say that I am very excited because I feel very good things will happen in the coming years.
