The Wednesday Rant: The rarely seen Plus Size Men & a whole other big issues

¿Is Big & Fabulous just for women?

 Para este rant del miércoles toco un tema en el cual de hecho soy parte, se trata de el Plus Size masculino. Se ha dicho mucho sobre todo el asunto del "Plus Size" y todo lo que a eso concierne siempre ha sido controversial ya que las opiniones varían demasiado, especialmente en materia de la industria fashion. Independientemente de asuntos de salud o estética soy de la opinión que las personas sea cual sea su tipo de cuerpo deben tener el derecho a vestirse como quieren y de que las tiendas proporcionen esto; no soy ajeno al hecho de que muchas compañías han incluido hermosa ropa para las chicas de talla plus size, lo cual me parece fabuloso, sin embargo he notado la escasez en la sección masculina y ese es el tema que quiero tratar.

Recuerdo que cuando comencé con el blog realmente no le preste mucha atención a la moda plus size, mas que nada por que no suelo aparecer en el y nunca me he visto como un "fashion lo que sea" ya que a mi consideración mi estilo es sencillamente un reflejo de mis gustos personales no es de mi interés impresionar a nadie o ser algo que no soy, pero a medida que el blog fue tomando rumbo y quise prestar un poco más de atención a la forma en la que me presentaba (también por la cantidad de eventos y dresscodes de los cuales soy enemigo jaja) caí en cuenta que la inspiración que buscaba siempre venia de personas que no podían estar más lejos de mi realidad y al momento que decidí buscar inspiración plus size para chicos...casi que no encuentro nada. Y es que encontrar sites para chicos de talla grande es sumamente difícil, menos hablar de bloggers es como si no existieran.

Esto también trajo a colación otra situación, aun cuando encontrara inspiración para vestirme según mi talla, no hay ropa; puedo perfectamente listar la cantidad de tiendas que se especializan en ropa plus size para chicas y aquellas que tienen estas secciones pero si me toca hacer una lista para los chicos me quedo en blanco. Encontrar ropa para mi ha sido realmente una odisea y aún si encuentro algo la mayoría suele ser un espanto y medio.

Una vez alguien en algún lado me critico (o creo que fue conmigo...lo mas seguro dado que soy el único blogger masculino plus size de mi país...que yo sepa) que era creído o arrogante por que pretendía que no era plus size y nunca escribía sobre eso en mi blog. ¿Como puedo tan siquiera pensar en redactar sobre eso cuando ni siquiera tengo opciones? Y no es que crea que todos los plus size son específicamente de mi talla pero creo que muchos han notado que las marcas cada vez traen ropa con un entalle mas pequeño al punto que un XXL parece un L y todo es mas corto y pegado.

Hay personas que argumentan que la razón por la que no hay mejor ropa para los chicos plus size es por que generalmente no tenemos interés en vestirnos bien así que nos lanzamos cualquier cosa encima y de esa forma salimos, yo opino ¿Que si no se dan opciones como esperan que las personas se motiven? Como generas ese impulso ¿Si la ropa no se hace con un enfoque especial haciendo que todo sea o una gigantesca sabana o una pieza grande pero imposiblemente fitted que se ajusta en todos los sitios incorrectos? O como pretenden que uno se sienta bien comprando ¿Si toda la ropa que hay no puede ser más fea? 

Puede que estas cosas contribuyan al hecho de que escaseen los bloggers masculinos plus size y que no haya ningún tipo de presencia de chicos de talla grande en los street styles, pero algo seguro es que no se puede seguir ignorando a este sector...no en estos tiempos.

For this Wednesday Rant I come with a topic in which I'm actually part, this is the male Plus Size. Much has been said about the whole issue of " Plus Size" and everything that relates to it has always been controversial because opinions vary widely, especially in the fashion industry . Regardless of health or aesthetic issues am of the opinion that people despite their body type should have the right to dress how they want and that be provide it by stores, I am not oblivious to the fact that many companies have included beautiful clothes for plus-size girls, which I think is fabulous, but I've noticed a shortage in the male section and that is the issue I want to address. 

I remember when this blog started I really did not pay much attention to plus size fashion, most of all because I do not usually appear in posts and I have never seen myself as a "fashion whatever" since my style is simply a reflection of my personal taste is not my interest to impress anyone or be something I'm not, but as the blog was taking direction and I wanted to pay a little more attention to the way in which I presented myself ( also due to the number of events and dresscodes of which I am an enemy haha) I realized that the inspiration I was looking for always came from people who could not be further from my reality and when I decided to find inspiration for plus size men...there was almost nothing. Finding sites for plus size men is extremely difficult, less talk about bloggers is like they do not exist at all. 

This also brought up another situation, even if I find inspiration to dress in my size there were no clothes, I can fully list the number of stores that specialize in plus size clothing for girls and those who have these sections but if I have to make a list for guys I could easily go blank. Finding clothes for me is really an ordeal and even if I find something most of the time they are often a horror and a half. 

Once somebody somewhere criticize me (or I think it was me...though it was probably me cause I am the only plus size male blogger in my country...as far as I know) that he/she believed I was stuck up or arrogant because I didn´t see myself as plus size and never wrote about it in my blog. ¿How I can even think of writing about that when even I have no options? And is not that I think that all those are plus size are specifically my size but I think many have noticed that brands increasingly bring clothes that tend to be on the small side to the point that an XXL looks like a L and everything is shorter and super fitted. 

Some people argue that the reason why there is no better apparel for plus size men is because they generally have no interest in dressing well so we throw on anything and thus we walk out like that, I argue ¿How can they expect people to be motivated if there are no option? How can they generate that impulse ¿If those clothes are not done with a special focus just reducing it to making everything a giant blanket or a plus size piece but impossibly fitted that fits in all the wrong places? Or how can one pretend to feel good buying garments ¿If they can not be more ugly? 

These things may contribute to the fact that male plus size bloggers scarce and that there is no presence of any large size men in street styles, but one thing is sure they can not continue ignoring this sector...not in these times, not anymore.
