Hello everyone! Today I am back with more art, and a little fashion, presenting "Playing with Shapes" an art exhibition, originally concieved in 1972, presented at Art Basel which is a union of the legendary brand Louis Vuitton and the legacy of visionary artist Pierre Paulin.
The connection between both worlds took off thanks to the admiration the designer Nicholas Ghesquiere had in the artist's work, reason why he came into contact with Maia Paulin to request permission so that Pierre´s "Osaka" sofa was part of the scenery for the Cruise 2015 presentation of the brand in Monaco. From that moment negotiations arose to bring to life the "Herman Miller Project", which the artist always wanted to finish.
This project initially arose thanks to the artist's admiration for the designs of Herman Miller furniture made for the professional and health sector. The ideals of simplicity, functionality and incredible construction fascinated Paulin who then created a similar project to be implemented in the residential area; unfortunately the oil crisis in the 70´s put an end to this project, which was titled La Maquette.
Louis Vuitton shares the ideals of a visionary and innovative design that does not neglect their ancestral roots and for this reason they decided to conduct the realization of La Maquette presenting it as part of Art Basel in Miami. The designs of these furniture are innovative and creative, transforming the way we live and simultaneously inspired by it, but always with the utmost attention that comfort is the ideal end.
"Luxury, functionality and innovation have driven Louis Vuitton since the mid 19th century...This year, Louis Vuitton once again revists functionality by realizing "Playing with Shapes"...It reflects a shared vision, as Paulin believe that design should address users´ needs rather than serve style for it´s own sake".- Louis Vuitton.
- Aesthetics are only the concequence of the limitations in an object´s design; they are by no means the expression of artistic intent.- Pierre Paulin.
- One expects from a designer a practical object with, if possible, a touch of poetry and elegance.- Pierre Paulin.
- I can only just glimpse the modernity of my work. I´m no genius. I´m simply the sorcerer´s apprentice. I´m a jack-off-all-trades who breaks and enters.- Pierre Paulin.
- I suscribe to the functionalist school. I´m permanently driven by the demands of comfort.- Pierre Paulin.
Louis Vuitton also held a dinner party for the exhibition opening, here are my best dressed.
Kate Hudson, Michelle Williams, Miranda Kerr & Laure Heriald Dubreuil.
Hugs, Andy.
