MBFWP15: ATLAPA Series - Day 1

¡Hola a todos! Damos inicio a la semana y con ella mi primera entrada de las pasarelas del Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Panamá 2015. Si hay algo que me encanta de la temporada primavera/verano es la dosis de color que con ella viene, desde los delicados tonos florales hasta las representaciones de la paleta del atardecer si hubo algo seguro para la temporada es que nadie estaba por mezclarse con las sombras. ¡Viva el color!

Este año la pasarela tuvo una dinámica diferente ya que al ser rectangular ofrecía un espacio para jugar y tratar cosas interesante en materia de presentación destacando el hecho que estaba soberbiamente apoyada por una pantalla gigante donde la mayoría de los diseñadores proyectaron vídeos e imágenes alusivos a sus desfiles. A mi consideración los asistentes de primera fila tuvieron sin duda la mayor ventaja pues la forma de la pasarela permitía una cercanía muy próxima a las modelos y los atuendos, lo que significó que tenían una mayor visibilidad de los detalles.

Hello everyone! We start the week off and with it comes my first official entry from the runways at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Panama 2015. You know if there is something I love from the spring/summer season is the dose of color that comes with it, from the delicate floral tones to the sunset hues if there was something sure for this season it was that no one felt like a wallflower. Yay for color!

This year the runway had a different dinamic because it had a rectangular shape which offered quite a space to be more playful and try new things in the presentations, all backed up by the gigantic screen that crowned it in which designers showed videos and/or images related to their collections. For me definetely the first row had the best seat in town because the runway shape allowed them to be extremely near the models and garments so they got a great closeup on all the clothes and details.

R.A.

La pasarela de la marca R.A. que hizo su debút este año dio inicio a la semana de la moda panameña con un boom. De energia interminable y una vibra increíblemente relajada la marca R.A. nos recordó que después de todo la moda es para divertirse, es un medio de proyectar tu actitud y es una extensión de la personalidad. Con un mensaje de cero pretensiones y libertad de espíritu esta propuesta tuvo algo que es muy poco común ver de los diseñadores locales y es ropa masculina casi en su totalidad, este punto fue uno de mis preferidos ya que en escasas ocasiones tengo la oportunidad de ver una pasarela para chicos (fuera de las que hagan los diseñadores internacionales) y les puedo asegurar que hay muchas piezas que fueron directo a mi wishlist.
En cuanto a moda todo valía estampados de todo tipos fuera rayas, puntos, cuadros, tartan, abstractos, estaban mezclados entre si dando un look muy particular a los modelos. El rango de prendas comprendía pantalones, shorts, camisas, camisetas, chaquetas y blazers. Algunas de estas prendas jugaron con el tema androgino ya fuere camisas largas tipo vestido camisero usadas por chicos como atuendos totalmente masculinos en algunas chicas que incluyeron en el desfile. Les doy un aplauso a los chicos de R.A. se han convertido en mi nueva marca local favorita.

R.A. made its debut this year kicking off panamanian fashion week with a boom. The energy and just plain ol´good relax vibe that this brand proyected reminded us that after all fashion is about having fun, attitude and playing with the aspects of your personality. With a message of cero pretense and freedom of spirit this offering had a very interesting approach which I have to say is very uncommon in local designers, menswear. which was one of my favourite things...along with snowflakes that stay on my nose and eyelashes...and I can tell you most of the pieces really kicked hard on my wishlist.Fashion-wise it was a feast for the eyes...a print you name it polka dots, stripes, tartan, plaid, checks, abstracts they were all there going on some mean mix & match that made the models look cool. The range was also great with trousers, shorts, shirts, t-shirts, jackets, sweaters and blazers. Some of these pieces played on the androginous theme with male models sporting what it looked like oversized shirt dresses and some of the few women who struted down the runway decked in a very masculine style. I applaud the R.A. duet because they just turn out my favorite brand of the season.

KRIS GOYRI

En su segunda vez en Panamá este diseñador vuelve a conquistar al público local con una propuesta en tonos mayormente cálidos y de mucha fluidez. Cada pieza jugaba en la balanza de prendas con cualidad editorial y otras mucho más comerciales y versátiles. La frescura moderna de su propuesta habla de un creador que entiende las necesidades de los países latinos donde el verano es caliente y el estilo lo es aún más. Los vuelos y los detalles off-shoulder nos recalcan las tendencias que hemos visto en pasarelas internacionales así que tomen nota. Kris Goyri define lo que se podría considerar el estilo por excelencia de la mujer latina sexy, estilosa pero siempre cómoda.

And they said sequels aren´t good...well what about The Empire Strikes Back? Anyways in his second time around designer Kris Goyri once again wins the local audience with a fluid and warm proposal. Each piece played on the balance between editorial and versatile. The modern freshness of this outing speaks about a creator that understands the needs in the latin countries where summers are hot and style even hotter. Ruffles and off-shoulder pieces reminded us of the global trends seen at other fashion weeks so take note. Kris Goyri´s collection might define what could be consider the latin woman style basic sexy, stylish but always very comfortable.

MICHELLE NASSAR x MELINA TYPALDOS (q.e.p.d - r.i.p.)

Casi a mediados del año todos recibimos la lamentable noticia de que una de las diseñadoras de joyas más prominente de nuestro país, Melina Typaldos, había fallecido súbitamente. Sin embargo, lejos de teñirse de oscuridad y luto el MBFWP, con apoyo de la familia de Melina, decidió celebrar el legado de esta luchadora artista haciendo realidad su anhelado deseo de realizar una colaboración con su amiga y colega Michelle Nassar. En la que considero una de mis tres colecciones locales favoritas de todo el fashion week la belleza floral que conjuró Michelle fue elevada por la magia orfebre de Melina en una propuesta hermosa, femenina y delicada que demostró la pasión y arte de dos talentosas creadoras.

Sometime around mid-year we all recieved the sad news that one of the most prominent jewelry designers in Panama, Melina Typaldos, suddenly passed away due to a heart attack. Nevertheless, far from making the event somber the team from MBFWP, along with the help of Melina´s family, decided to celebrate the legacy of this incredible designer by making real one of the most heartfelt desires which was to do a collaboration with long time friend and colleague Michelle Nassar. In what I consider to be one of my three top favorite local collections in all fashion week the floral beauty that Michelle conjured was elevated by the magic mastery of jewelry manufacturing by Melina in a line that was equal parts beautiful, femenine and delicate, which demonstrated the pasion and art of this two talented artists.

NAEEM KHAN

Si hay algo que emociona a todos año tras año es sin duda saber quienes serán los diseñadores invitados a nuestra fiesta de moda y este ha sido uno de los mejores sin duda. Uno de los artistas de lujo que se hizo presente fue el diseñador Naeem Khan quien es conocido por sus espectaculares trajes dignos de la mejor alfombra roja y su especialización en bordado, trabajo que es sello de su marca y el cual se realiza con fantástica precisión, lo que no es para menos ya que es una tradición familiar que ha conservado y respetado. 

Aunque esta colección fue presentada en el NYFW´15 no cabe duda que ver algo en fotos o vídeo jamas será lo mismo que presenciarlo en vivo y a todo color....literalmente a todo color pues esta colección gozaba de una paleta hermosa con rosas, amarillos, morados, verdes y combinaciones de impacto visual que dejaron a más de un asistente asombrado debido a la calidad palpable de su trabajo.

If there is something that excites every fashion enthusiast year after years is knowing which international designers are coming to our little soirée and it didn´t dissapoint. One of the artists that made his presence known was designer Naeem Khan who is known for spectacular gowns fit for the best red carpets and his specialty in embroidery, a work that has become an icon of his brand and which is made with the most careful precision. And this is no regular feat for it has been a tradition in his family for years which he has preservered and respected. 

Although this collection was already presented at NYFW´15 there is no doubt that watching something live is a whole other thing....like we say live and in color...and boy do I mean color because this outing had a gorgeous palette of pinks, yellows, purples, green and an army of combinations that had visual impact and left more than one in the audience gasping in awe for the amazing quality that is notorious in his work.
