¡Hola a todos! Ya el FWP pasó y nos dejó con muy buenas pasarelas...algunas me gustaron más que otras...y tengan por seguro que el post viene pronto, sin embargo no podía dejar pasar otra participación de un diseñador nacional en el extranjero y es que en esta ocasión se trata de la marca Sousa Pitti que presento su colección Capsula'17 en el marco de Nicaragua Diseña.
Esta propuesta fue presentada previamente en el Macrofest en el mes de Marzo y tenía la intención de hacer un post sobre ello pero casi a la semana se le presentó una oportunidad de presentar en el extranjero al diseñador con el que trabajo y pues me ocupé con la marca. Sin embargo, al enterarme que estaba presentando en Nicaragua Diseña no dudé en contactarla para felicitarla y de paso ahora si obtener todas las fotos y la nota de prensa sobre su colección.
Hello everyone! FWP has already passed and it left us with quite a few good runway shows ... some I liked more than others ... and be sure that the post about it will come soon, but I could not pass up another participation of a national designer abroad and this time is about the brand Sousa Pitti that presented its Capsule'17 collection in the framework of Nicaragua Diseña.
This proposal was previously presented at Macrofest in the month of March and I intended to make a post about it but almost a week after the designer I work with was presented with an opportunity to present abroad and well that took my attention elsewhere and the moment passed. However, upon learning that she was presenting again at Nicaragua Diseña, I did not hesitate to contact her to send my congratulations and to obtain all the photos and the press release about the collection.
Esta colección esta inspirada en el trabajo de la diseñadora y activista brasileña Zuzu Angel quien utilizó sus colecciones como un medio de protesta contra las injusticias de la Dictadura Militar en Brasil en los setentas.
La propuesta de la diseñadora Andrea Sousa toma los elementos militares así como el uso de colores y siluetas setenteras en materiales funcionales y apropiados para el clima tropical como el denim y canvas. Por otro lado, incluye detalles como bordados que hacen alusión a los bordados que la diseñadora Zuzu Angel empleaba en sus diseños y los cuales solían ser imágenes de armas apuntando a ángeles, pájaros en jaulas y siluetas militares.
De igual manera, la colección sigue ostentando la identidad de diseño que define las creaciones de la casa Sousa Pitti utilizando lineas rectas y detalles grandes, mientras que la inspiración siempre es muy marcada y palpable.
This collection is inspired by the work of Brazilian designer and activist Zuzu Angel who used her collections as a means of protest against the injustices of the military dictatorship in Brazil in the 1970s.
The proposal of the designer Andrea Sousa takes military elements as well as the use of colors and silhouettes of the seventoes in functional materials that are appropriate for our tropical climate like denim and canvas. On the other hand, it includes details such as embroidery that allude to the embroidery that the designer Zuzu Angel used in her designs and which used to be images of weapons pointing to angels, birds in cages and military silhouettes.
In the same way, the collection continues to show the design identity that defines the creations of the Sousa Pitti house using straight lines and large details, while the inspiration is always very marked and palpable.
La diseñadora utiliza esta colección para hacer su propio llamado de conciencia social, en sus propias palabras: "Son muchos los problemas e injusticias que nuestra sociedad vive hoy en día, tanto en nuestro país como en el resto del mundo. Por medio de esta colección buscamos enviar un mensaje especifico de unión, tolerancia y comprensión. Es importante, como país, aprender que las diferencias nos enriquecen y el respeto nos une. La equidad, tanto a nivel social, como en genero, raza u orientación sexual, es necesaria para crecer."
Del mismo modo exhorta a todos los artistas locales, de la generación a la que pertenezcan, que utilicen su arte de manera creativa para levantar la voz sobre aquellas situaciones que les preocupan y que necesitan ser expuestas.
The designer uses this collection to make her own call of social conscience, in her own words: "There are many problems and injustices that our society lives today, both in our country and in the rest of the world. we seek to send a specific message of union, tolerance and understanding. It is important, as a country, to learn that differences enrich us and respect unites us. Equity, socially as well as gender, race or sexual orientation, is necessary for growth."
It also encourages all local artists, from every generation to which they belong, to use their art in a creative way to raise their voices about those situations that concern them and need to be exposed.
He seguido la carrera de la diseñadora Andrea Sousa, y su marca Sousa Pitti, desde que la vi por primera vez en el Fashion Week Panamá 2014 y recuerdo claramente que consideré su marca una de las nuevas con más potencial en el diseño nacional. Su estilo de diseño si bien mantiene el enfoque creativo que le caracteriza desde el inicio si he notado que ha cambiado hacia prendas un poco más funcionales que en sus primeras colecciones, poniendo mucha atención en los materiales que utiliza y específicamente en su comodidad para nuestro clima.
Sigo creyendo que es una marca con mucho potencial y la diseñadora sin duda ha sabido mantener el balance entre creatividad y comercialidad, algo en lo que otras marcas locales suelen irse a uno de los dos extremos. Si tuviera que resaltar un punto que siento puede mejorar es el uso de algunos textiles que en ocasiones no le hacen justicia a su creatividad y le resta un poco el semblante "high fashion" que debe tener una colección de diseñador.
Sousa Pitti sigue siendo una marca relativamente nueva y que aún tiene mucho camino por recorrer, se que veremos grandes cosas de esta diseñadora en el futuro y yo sin duda, como diríamos en jerga local, le tendré el ojo puesto.
I followed the career of designer Andrea Sousa and her brand Sousa Pitti since I first saw her at Fashion Week Panama 2014 and I clearly remember that I considered her brand one of the new ones with more potential in the national design. Her style of design while maintaining the creative approach that characterized it from the beginning I have noticed that it has changed towards garments a little more functional than in its first collections putting much attention on the materials used and specifically in its comfort for our climate.
I still believe that it is a brand with a lot of potential and the designer has certainly been able to maintain the balance between creativity and commerciality, something in which other local brands usually go to one of the two extremes. If I have to pin point a thing that I believe can be of great improve to her brand is that some textiles don´t really match up to her creative wits and it kinda takes a bit off the entire high fashion look a designer brand should have.
Sousa Pitti is still a relatively new brand and it sure has a long way to go, I know that we will see great things about this designer in the future and I will certainly keep an eye on her work.
