Hola a tod@s ¡Feliz 2020! Después de unas semanas de descanso estoy de regreso para iniciar este año con lo mejor de la moda internacional y por supuesto la moda local panameña que nunca puede faltar y se ha convertido en parte fundamental de este blog.

La llegada de la nueva década me guió a pensar en el porvenir y como la moda ha evolucionado a través de los años, esto me trajo a reflexionar sobre aquellos diseñadores que en algún momento imaginaron lo que sería la vestimenta en nuestra época y se tomaron la tarea de construir con sus marcas prendas que son el testamentos de un futuro soñado. Asimismo, quise resaltar el trabajo de los nuevos futuristas, aquellos que en el presente continúan esta labor de crear con la moda una narrativa evolutiva de indumentaria como respuesta al cambiante mundo en el que vivimos.

He decidido resaltar el trabajo e historia de seis creadores cuya labor ha dejado una marca notoria no solo en la moda sino en mi persona y han motivado mi amor por la estética futurista.

Hello everyone Happy 2020! After a few weeks off I am back to start this year with the best of international fashion and of course the local Panamanian fashion that can never be missed and has become a fundamental part of this blog.

The arrival of the new decade led me to think about the future and how fashion has evolved over the years, this brought me to reflect on those designers who at some point imagined what clothing would be in our time and took the task of building with their brands garments that are the testaments of a dreamed future. I also wanted to highlight the work of the new futurists, those who currently continue this work of creating an evolutionary clothing narrative with fashion as a response to the changing world in which we live.

I have decided to highlight the work and history of six creators whose work has left a notorious mark not only in fashion but in my person and have motivated my love for futuristic aesthetics.

PIERRE CARDIN

Uno de los más reconocidos diseñadores de la corriente futurista frecuentemente utilizaba formas geométricas, a veces de gran tamaño en relación con el cuerpo, que creaban formas y movimientos que resultaban extraños y a la vez emocionantes. En su búsqueda por lo novedoso llegó a trabajar con materiales inusuales para la época como el lurex, vinilo y dynel. Su pasión por esta estética lo llevó a expandir sus creaciones a muebles y arquitectura construyendo espacios que desafían la imaginación y objetos que son piezas de arte funcionales. Se deleitaba en admitir que creaba para el mañana y no hay duda que su visión sigue vigente e inspirando a creadores hoy día.

One of the most recognized designers of the futuristic current frequently used geometric shapes, sometimes large in relation to the body, that created shapes and movements that were strange and at the same time exciting. In his search for novelty he came to work with unusual materials for the time such as lurex, vinyl and dynel. His passion for this aesthetic led him to expand his creations to furniture and architecture by building spaces that defy imagination and objects that are functional pieces of art. He delighted in admitting that he created for tomorrow and there is no doubt that his vision is still valid and inspiring creators today.

ANDRÉ COURRÈGES

Uno de los diseñadores más reconocidos de los 60 y a quien su fascinación por los viajes espaciales llevó a crear prendas que en vez de guardar algún tipo de añoranza por épocas pasadas estaban totalmente dedicadas a crear un guardarropa funcional y único para la mujer que quisiera entrar al futuro con el estilo correcto. Sus diseños guardaban mayormente lineas simples y precisas en ocasiones con detalles de transparencias, acentos de vinilo, telas metalizadas y estampados geométricos, todo aquello que pudiera asociarse con el futuro y que a su vez fuera innegablemente usable llegando a ser de los diseñadores en definir parte de estilo de toda una década. 

One of the most recognized designers of the 60s and whose fascination with space travel led to the creation of garments that instead of having some kind of longing for past times were totally dedicated to creating a functional and unique wardrobe for women who wanted to enter the future with the right style. His designs mostly kept simple and precise lines sometimes with details of transparencies, vinyl accents, metallic fabrics and geometric prints, everything that could be associated with the future and that in turn was undeniably usable, becoming a member of the designers that defined part of a decade's style.

PACO RABANNE

Apodado el "trabajador de metales" este diseñador se caracterizó por el uso de materiales inusuales en la creación de sus colecciones, prefiriendo emplear metal, aluminio, plástico y hasta papel en lugar de las tradicionales herramientas de costura. Sus diseños son un testamento a la innovación como el futuro de la moda, convirtiendo la ropa en prendas con una cualidad que rayan el grado de arte y a su vez representan un modo de trabajo sostenible. Una de sus iniciativas más notables fue la creación de sets armables que permitían a la persona ensamblar sus propios trajes utilizando materiales como discos y aros.

Nicknamed the "metal worker" this designer was characterized by the use of unusual materials in the creation of his collections, preferring to use metal, aluminum, plastic and even paper instead of the traditional sewing tools. His designs are a testament to innovation as the future of fashion, turning clothes into garments with a quality that scratch the degree of art and in turn represented a sustainable way of working. One of his most notable initiatives was the creation of kits that allowed the person to assemble their own dress using materials such as discs and rings.

IRIS VAN HERPEN

No hay duda que es uno de los nombres más reconocidos en la moda actual siendo admirada por muchos entusiastas y respetada por su capacidad de unir la tradición y la tecnología para crear una sinergia mágica que le permite construir prendas para el presente con una visión vanguardista. Su motivación por experimentar la llevó a utilizar el potencial que presentan los avances tecnológicos para aplicarlos en la construcción de moda siendo una de las pioneras en el uso de la impresión tridimensional. Aún con toda su capacidad de innovación sus diseños guardan una cualidad orgánica que ha estado presente en su trabajo de forma continua y presentan una interesante simbiosis entre ciencia y naturaleza.

There is no doubt that it is one of the most recognized names in current fashion being admired by many enthusiasts and respected for her ability to unite tradition and technology to create a magical synergy that allows her to build clothes for the present with an avant-garde vision. Her motivation to experiment led her to use the potential of technological advances to apply them in fashion construction, being one of the pioneers in the use of three-dimensional printing. Even with all her capacity for innovation, her designs maintain an organic quality that has been a fixture continuously throughout her work and present an interesting symbiosis between science and nature.

HUSSEIN CHALAYAN

Un transgresor que no se sujeta a las reglas básicas de la moda y quien crea piezas que son maravillas conceptuales y tecnológicas. Con ellas explora temas culturales, sociales, de identidad e innovación. Sus trabajos son, y siguen siendo, revolucionarios creando colecciones en las que los trajes pueden moverse y cambiar de forma mecánicamente o ser ensamblados de piezas de mueblería. Su exploración lo ha llevado a presentar momentos inolvidables como los trajes solubles en agua que revelaban piezas realizadas en impresión 3D. Hussein Chalayan es uno de los diseñadores actuales más creativos y con sus ideas trae al presente visiones fantásticas del futuro de la moda donde la ropa trasciende su propósito y se convierte en una experiencia.

A transgressor who is not yielding to the basic rules of fashion and who creates pieces that are conceptual and technological wonders. With them he explores cultural, social, identity and innovation themes. His works are, and continue to be, revolutionary creating collections in which costumes can move and change mechanically or be assembled from pieces of furniture. His exploration has led him to present unforgettable moments such as water-soluble suits that revealed pieces made in 3D printing underneath. Hussein Chalayan is one of the most creative current designers and with his ideas brings to the present fantastic visions of the future of fashion where clothes transcend from their original purpose to become an experience.

GARETH PUGH

Aunque es el más joven del grupo su talento fue notado desde su graduación de la prestigiosa Central Saint Martins y desde entonces su marca se ha convertido en una de las imperdibles para los amantes de la moda conceptual. Sus diseños futuristas exploran características como volumen y forma llegando a crear piezas que distorsionan visualmente al cuerpo humano y en otros casos aumenta el tamaño de áreas mediante la utilización de globos inflados integrados en las prendas. Sus creaciones muchas veces dan la sensación de ser una armadura para el cuerpo que ofrece protección y al mismo tiempo empodera, quizás un comentario sobre su visión del futuro. Su incomparable estilo y la teatralidad de sus presentaciones le auguran una gran carrera que seguramente tendremos el placer de seguir.

Although he is the youngest of the group, his talent was noticed since his graduation from the prestigious Central Saint Martins and since then his brand has become one of the must-sees for lovers of conceptual fashion. His futuristic designs explore features such as volume and shape, creating pieces that visually distort the human body and in other cases, the size of areas increases through the use of inflated balloons integrated into the garments. His creations often give the sensation of being an armor for the body that offers protection and at the same time empowers, perhaps a commentary on his vision of the future. His incomparable style and theatricality of his presentations augur a great career that we will surely have the pleasure of following.
