FWP 2018 Spotlight: Meet The Designers.

¡Hola a tod@s! Hemos llegado nuevamente a esa época del año, si el Fashion Week Panamá ya está a la vuelta de la esquina y decidí tomar un break de mi ataque de pánico al no saber que me pondré para compartir con ustedes un poco sobre las marcas nacionales y locales que estarán presentando en esta edición.

Debo hacer la salvedad que este año si me sentiré extraño al no ver colecciones de Greta Bayo y Graciela Lasso, quienes no aparecen en lista, pues son marcas que me gustan ademas que conozco a las diseñadoras, y que se habían convertido ya en una constante del evento. De igual manera, Anna Francesca Blasser tampoco estará presentando y sin duda se extrañará su pasarela la cual siempre es un espectáculo.

A pesar de algunas ausencias también tenemos inesperados regresos y marcas que por supuesto estoy muy emocionado por ver sus propuestas nuevas que estoy seguro no decepcionarán. Ademas que este año posiblemente tengan al grupo de diseñadores emergentes más sólidos a nivel estético y con presencia de marca.

Ahora a lo que vinimos y un poco sobre las marcas nacionales y locales que estarán presentando este año en el Fashion Week Panamá 2018.

Hello everyone! We have arrived again at that time of the year, Fashion Week Panama is already around the corner and I decided to take a break from my panic attack by not knowing what I will wear to share with you a little about the national and local brands that will be presenting in this edition.

I must state that this year it feels very strange not to see collections by Greta Bayo and Graciela Lasso, since both do not appear on the list, because they are brands that I like, in addition that I know the designers, and that they have already become a constant of the event. Similarly, Anna Francesca Blasser will not be presenting and no doubt everyone will miss her super fun runways....specially the models.

Despite some absences we also have unexpected returns and brands that of course I am very excited to see their new proposals which I am sure will not disappoint. In addition, this year probably boasts  the more solid aesthetically and with brand presence group of emerging designers we ever had.

Now to what we came for here is a little bit about the national and local brands that will be presenting this year at the Fashion Week Panama 2018.

CHAJIN DESIGNS

Posiblemente la primera diseñadora que conocí cuando entre en el medio, quien nunca ha parado de trabajar y presentar sus ideas a través de su marca Chajin Designs. Si hay algo constante con Annie es su uso de motivos siempre inspirados en la cultura panameña así como muchísimo color, algo que llena de energía sus pasarelas. En los últimos años su marca ha limitado un poco la estética exclusivamente autóctona de sus primeras presentaciones para mezclarla con un estilo inspirado en el "streetwear" y creo que ha sido un excelente cambio para la marca.

Possibly the first designer I met when I started in the media, who has never stopped working and presenting her ideas through Chajin Designs brand. If there is something constant with Annie is her use of motifs always inspired by Panamanian culture as well as a lot of color, something that fills her runways with energy. In recent years her brand has limited a bit the exclusively native aesthetics of her first presentations to mix it with a style inspired by "streetwear" and I think it has been an excellent change for the brand.

HÉLÈNE BREEBAART

Una de las diseñadoras con más tiempo y experiencia en el medio quien a través de su marca exalta un hermoso trabajo que lleva la tradición de la mola a un plano contemporáneo en piezas elegantes y perfectas para un clima tropical. El año pasado la marca presentó la que posiblemente es una de sus mejores colecciones a la fecha logrando refrescar su estilo y asegurándose de tener un rango de piezas para todo tipo de mujer y edad. Una pasarela por la que tengo mucha expectativa.

One of the most experienced designers in the field right now her brand highlights the beautiful work of our mola bringing it to a contemporary table with beautiful elegant pieces that are panamanian climate perfect. Last year she presented one of her best collections to date giving her brand a needed refresh making sure to appeal to a wider target. This is a runway on my must see highly expected list.

MARCISCANO

Desde su debut en FWP esta marca ha venido creciendo en popularidad gracias a sus hermosos trajes de noche y una estética que no solo ha cuidado sino que evolucionado. Después de una exitosa colección presentada en el Macro Couture 2018 hay mucha expectativa por su nueva propuesta y estoy seguro que no decepcionará.

Since its debut in FWP this brand has gain quite the following thanks to its beautiful evening garments and a constante updated style that doesn´t stray too much away from what her clientele loves. After a very successful collection at Macro Couture 2018 I can tell there is a lot of expectation for her new collection and I´m sure it will not dissapoint.

LIDIA MINOTA

Esta diseñadora ha conquistado a muchas con sus diseños ligeros y de inspiración tropical que hacen sentir bellas a las mujeres, incluso enamorando a influencers internacionales y es una de las pocas diseñadoras locales que tiene punto de venta en el extranjero. Lidia es una diseñadora de constancia siempre asegurándose de crear prendas que sean deseables, frescas y fieles a la estética de su marca y espero nuevamente ver una propuesta solida que guste a todos los asistentes.

This designer has conquered many women with her light tropical inspired contemporary designs which make them feel beautiful, even getting the attention of international influencers and is currently one of the few local designers to sell her garments out of Panama. Lidia is a constant designer choosing to creat desirable pieces that feel fresh and in tune with the brand she has established.

VERÓNICA ÁNGEL

Sin duda en mi lista de marcas favoritas he sido fanático de sus diseños desde que lanzó su primera colección y es que su uso del color y materiales siempre se convierten en diseños visualmente atractivos e interesantes. No por nada es una de las diseñadoras panameñas que nos está representando en el International Young Fashion Designers Showcase que ya ha presentado en Islandia y Tanzania, talento panameño para el mundo.

Without a doubt in my list of favorite brands since its debut...I am so in love with the colors and materials the designer chooses which make visually amazing outfits. There is a reason she is one of the brands representing the country at the International Young Fashion Designers Showcase which has already taken her designs to Iceland and Tanzania, a panamanian talent for the world.

JOHN BEJARANO

Este diseñador quien tiene ya más de diez años de llamar a Panamá su casa se ha caracterizado por sus diseños modernistas y excelencia en la costura siendo también una marca constante en el FWP. Su marca esta en constante evolución siempre buscando nuevas formas de crear una amalgama perfecta entre el estilo latinoamericano y una estética contemporánea creativa que continúe siendo elegante y fiel a la imagen que ha construido durante estos años. Para aquellos que me siguen desde hace un rato saben que trabajo con esta marca desde el 2012 y solo les puedo adelantar que vienen muchas sorpresas así que estén pendientes.

This designer has been calling Panama his home for more than ten years and has made known his brand for modernist latinamerican concepts and great confection skills, also being a constant presence at FWP. His brand is always in constant evolution seeking new ways to blend his almost futuristic vision with the colorful latin style while still holding up values like elegance and brand fidelity. If you happen to follow for a while you´ll know I work with this brand since 2012 and all I can say is there are many surprises coming your way so stay tuned!

SOUSA PITTI

Otra de las marcas que siento esta haciendo un excelente trabajo creándose una identidad y estética sumamente reconocible, gracias a sus diseños con estructura y detalles oversize, ademas de no caer en los estilos tradicionales que se ven en las tiendas y en cambio siempre presenta prendas frescas e interesantes que definitivamente hablan de una diseñadora cuyo compromiso es con crear propuestas y no seguir tendencias. En las redes sociales se puede ver que por primera vez incluirá ropa masculina en pasarela y no puedo esperar a ver con que nos sorprende.

Another brand that has being doing a great job at setting an identity and recognizable aesthetic, thanks to structured designs with oversized details, this brand proposes fashion instead of following trends and that is amazing. In the designer´s social media its been revealed she will present her first menswear pieces on the runway and I can´t wait to see what she comes up with.

TONY VERGARA

Probablemente una de las marcas de diseñador joven más reconocidas por los seguidores de la moda nacional, desde sus inicios en Vergara & Vergara este diseñador ha logrado cautivar a las personas y su estética ha visto una evolución notable con el pasar de los años llegando a crear piezas muy usables que no dejan de lado la identidad de su diseño. En este 2018 la marca cumple 10 años y lo celebrara con una retrospectiva cerca de uno de los sitios iconos de Panamá, el Biomuseo. Una presentación muy esperada y que seguro atraerá una gran cantidad de admiradores.

Probably one of the most recognized young brands for all fashion enthusiasts, since his beginnings at Vergara & Vergara this designer has captivated the audience and the design work in brand has gone through notable evolution taking on a more wearable approach that still holds up its identity. This 2018 the brand is turning 10 and it will celebrate it with a retrospective in the premises of an iconic panamanian building the Biomuseo. This is a really expected event and it will sure bring all the admirers to the yard..can´t wait to see it.

BUTTERFLY VILLA

Después de un tiempo fuera de la pasarela del FWP mi marca favorita de bolsos Butterfly Villa regresa a presentar una nueva colección que espero este cargada de ese toque interesante y algo irreverente que suelen tener su creaciones. Es sin duda una de las pasarelas que más espero ademas de estar listo para hacer mis pedidos pues ya necesito bolsos nuevos para cargar mis cosas y confío totalmente en su calidad. 

After a time out of the runway circuit my favorite bag brand is back to present the designer´s newest collection which I am hoping gives the right amount of interesting and a little bit wanderous which usually is at the core of her design. This is one of my most expected runway shows and I am ready to start appointing dates because I need a new set of bags and this brand´s quality is totally up to par.

MICHELLE ZARAK

Michelle es una diseñadora bastante reconocida en nuestro país que ha realizado presentaciones en países como Colombia y República Dominicana, su historial de moda comprende no solo su marca sino creaciones exclusivas para marcas como Carven, Isidoro y Via Spiga Milano. Su estilo de diseño suele ser elegante pero no suntuoso casi con un pequeño toque de desenfado. Su última presentación fue en el Fashion Week Panamá 2013 y me intriga mucho ver como ha evolucionado su visión de moda en estos años ausente de las pasarelas.

Michelle is a designer with quite the recognition in my country who´s had the opportunity to present her collections in countries like Colombia and Dominican Republic, her fashion resume include stints at brands like Carven, Isidoro and Via Spiga Milano. Her design style is usually elegant but never to the point of sumptous it actually has a hint of a chill attitude to it. Her last presentation was at Fashion Week Panama 2013 so I am really curious to see how her vision of fashion has changed in these years apart from the runways.
