¡Hola a tod@s! Me he pasado un poco de mi horario regular de postear los lunes pues he estado un poquito distraído con otros asuntos pero de que subía la entrada esta semana de eso no había duda. Me llegó la idea de realizar un post de "style inspo" en honor a la celebración del MAC Gala, evento que se llevará a cabo la próxima semana en Mi Pueblito Afro-Indigena y el cual promete ser muy memorable.
Para darles un poco de contexto, éste es organizado por el Museo de Arte Contemporáneo y funciona como un evento de recaudación de fondos para el museo que le permite mantenerlo en función, darle mantenimiento y dejar que la entrada al mismo sea por donación, cuyo monto es a criterio del visitante. La gala es una celebración de diferentes disciplinas artísticas con muestras de arte local, intervenciones, subastas, gastronomía por los más celebrados restaurantes de Panamá y actuaciones por artistas profesionales en distintos rubros del arte.
La entrada al mismo es solo con boleto y vale totalmente la pena pues aparte de todo lo mencionado el MAC en conjunto con la revista Coup d´Etat, quienes fungen como co-organizadores, se encargan de realizar una decoración de alto impacto visual que le da a la noche un halo de magia y emoción.
Hello everyone! I have strayed a little from my regular schedule of posting on Mondays because I have been distracted with other issues but that there was no doubt that the post was gonna be up this week. I had the idea to make a post of "style inspo" in honor of the celebration of the MAC Gala, an event that will take place next week at Mi Pueblito Afro-Indigena and which promises to be very memorable.
To give you a bit of context, it is organized by the Museum of Contemporary Art and works as a fundraising event for the museum that allows it to keep it in operation, maintain it and let the entrance to it be by donation, the amount of which it is at the discretion of the visitor. The gala is a celebration of different artistic disciplines with samples of local art, interventions, auctions, gastronomy by the most celebrated restaurants in Panama and performances by professional artists in different areas of art.
The entrance to it is only with a ticket and it is totally worth it because apart from everything mentioned the MAC in conjunction with the magazine Coup d'Etat, who serve as co-organizers, are responsible for brainstorming a decoration of high visual impact that gives the night a halo of magic and excitement.

Este año la temática del evento es Retropical y eso lo diferencia de años anteriores en los cuales las personas que asisten han utilizado atuendos un poco más elegantes y propios de una gala. Bajo el tema y la locación se incentiva a los asistentes a que muestren sus mejores estilismos tropicales, un poco más relajados y frescos, de inspiración retro.
Fue precisamente pensando en este 'dress code' y mi constante recomendación de utilizar diseño local para este tipo de eventos que decidí crear esta entrada donde basándome en cada década y el trabajo de diseñadores locales he hecho una lista de 'looks' de inspiración retro para motivar e inspirar a todos los que estén planeando asistir a que se acerquen a nuestros diseñadores, apoyen y representen la moda panameña en esta alfombra roja que seguro será estilosa y muy divertida.

This year the theme of the event is Retropical and that differentiates it from previous years in which the people who attend have gone for a more elegant attire very proper of a gala. Under this theme and location, attendees are encouraged to show their best tropical ensembles, which may be a little more relaxed, fresh and of course retro-inspired.
It was precisely thinking about this dress code and my constant recommendation to use local design for this type of events that I decided to create this entry where based on each decade and the work of local designers I have made a list of retro-inspired looks to motivate and inspire all those who are planning to attend to approach our designers, support and represent Panamanian fashion on this red carpet that is sure to be stylish and fun.

Empiezo diciendo que todos estos 'looks' son inspiraciones y por lo tanto no están al pie de la letra con la época, ya que el punto no es disfrazarse sino referir de forma moderna. Esta particular creación de Verónica me recuerda a los trajes tipo columna de los años 20 pero traído a una periodo actual, el motivo floral en tono blanco le da ese toque fresco perfecto para la ocasión.
I want to start by stating that all these looks are inspirations and therefore are not exact representations of the time, since the point is not to be in a disguise but to reference in a modern way. This particular creation of Veronica reminds me of the column type dresses of the 20s but brought to a current period, the white floral motif gives that fresh touch which is perfect for the occasion.
Marciscano - 1930's.
Si hay algo que me encanta de esta década es la sensualidad sedosa de algunas siluetas. Este traje de Marciscano posee parte del espíritu de los años 30 pero llevado a un nivel minimalista donde el poderío de su hermoso color amarillo da la perfecta nota tropical.
If there is something I love about this decade, it is the silky sensuality of some silhouettes. This Marciscano gown has part of the spirit of the 30s but taken to a minimalist level where the power of its beautiful yellow color gives it the perfect tropical hue.

Fresca, sexy y lista para celebrar este diseño de Michelle es la perfecta referencia a los años 70´s...iba a poner un caftán pero era la opción más obvia (aunque si son de su interés Hélène y Marciscano tiene increíbles caftanes en sus más recientes colecciones).

Olga Recio - 1990's.
No hay nada que supere a un 'slip dress' (en parte por que es la única pieza que vale la pena para usar en un evento como este ¡Sorry!) Su simpleza seductora lo hace muy cómodo y este modelo en particular posee ese estampado de flores nocturnas que sin duda fue un icono de la década.
There is nothing that surpasses a 'slip dress' (partly because it is the only piece that is worth to use in an event like this! Sorry!) Its seductive simplicity makes it very comfortable and this particular model has that dark floral print that was undoubtedly an icon of the decade.
Lo más cercano que podemos estar y conservar la regla retro...Debo decir los 2000 no son exactamente la mejor década de la moda, ademas que fueron una amalgama de estéticas pasadas tomando una gran cantidad de elementos. Es por eso que para esta inspiración tome algo icono de la época y es el 'jungle print' de Versace que inmortalizó Jennifer Lopez; decidí hacer un guiño a el con esta bella pieza de Tony Vergara que caería como anillo al dedo para el evento.
The closest we can be and keep the retro rule ... I must say the 2000s are not exactly the best decade of fashion, besides they were an amalgam of past aesthetics taking a lot of elements from past decades and cultures. That is why for this inspiration I took something iconic of the time and it is the 'jungle print' of Versace that was immortalized by Jennifer Lopez; I decided to give it a little nod with this beautiful piece by Tony Vergara that would perfectly fit with this event.
Si asisten al MAC Gala espero que estas recomendaciones (que también son mi 'wishlist') los ayuden a inspirarse y mostrar apoyo a la moda local. Es mi deseo ver más del talento de nuestros diseñadores en estas plataformas que realmente ayudan a lucir a un nivel más mediático su trabajo y muestra que el talento de estos creadores que luchan por darle una identidad a la moda panameña no es en vano.
If you attend the MAC Gala, I hope that these recommendations (which are also my wishlist) will help you get inspired and show support for local fashion. It is my desire to see more of the talent of our designers on these platforms that really help to show off their work at a more wider level and shows that the talent of these creators who strive to give an identity to Panamanian fashion is not in vain.
