Latinamericans to Watch // Chile.

¡Hola a todos! Esta semana estoy de regreso continuando con mi segmentos 'Latinamericans to Watch' donde resalto el trabajo de tres marcas de un país especifico en latinoamérica, en esta ocasión le toca a nuestros hermanos chilenos cuyo país ha experimentado un crecimiento en moda en los últimos años, lo que le ha valido posicionarse en el radar de variadas plataformas internacionales.

Si bien el Chile cuenta con una cátedra de diseñadores locales, y otros que residen en el extranjero, cuyos estilos son tan variados como creativamente estimulantes he notado que a nivel de moda han tenido un 'boom' en dos corrientes muy particulares. La primera es el 'streetwear' que en mis investigaciones iniciales dominaba casi todas las marcas que veía, con exponentes como Ilícito, Dos Lobos, y Ciénago; por otro lado se ha gestado una importante corriente sostenible donde el 'upcycling', el 'slow fashion' y otros métodos como la reparación cobran fuerza convirtiéndose en los medios perfectos para que marcas como Ente Upcycling, Lupe Gajardo y Relato puedan desplegar toda su creatividad dando nueva vida a prendas y/o textiles.

Debo decir que al investigar sobre las marcas chilenas quede muy sorprendido con el nivel y calidad de sus creaciones, es innegable que nuestro país hermano se ha convertido en un hervidero de talento que le augura un muy buen futuro a su moda local. Confieso que Chile no era uno de los países que tenia en la mente al pensar en moda latina, no es que escuchemos mucho de ello en Panamá de hecho la moda chilena fue una solicitud que me hicieron en una entrada previa y la verdad me alegro mucho de haberla tomado. Hi everyone! This week I am back continuing with my 'Latinamericans to Watch' segment where I highlight the work of three brands from a specific country in Latin America, this time it is up to our Chilean brothers whose country has experienced growth in fashion in recent years, which has earned them a position on the radar of various international platforms.

Although Chile has a strong group of local designers, and others who reside abroad, whose styles are as varied as creatively stimulating, I have noticed that at a fashion level they have had a boom in two very particular currents. The first is 'streetwear' that in my initial investigations dominated almost all the brands I saw, with exponents such as Ilícito, Dos Lobos, and Ciénago; on the other hand, an important sustainable front has developed where 'upcycling', 'slow fashion' and other methods such as repair have gained strength, becoming the perfect means for brands such as Ente Upcycling, Lupe Gajardo and Relato to display all their creativity giving new life to garments and/or textiles.

I must say that when investigating Chilean brands I was very surprised with the level and quality of their creations, it is undeniable that our sister country has become a hotbed of talent that augurs a very good future for its local fashion. I confess that Chile was not one of the countries that I had in mind when thinking about Latin fashion, it is not that we hear much about it in Panama, in fact Chilean fashion was a request made to me in a previous post and the truth is I am very happy of having taken it. Una marca de diseño masculino, fundada por Hans Gallo Pohl, que basa sus creaciones en comodidad, minimalismo y el juego de textiles. A masculine designer brand, founded by Hans Gallo Pohl, that bases its creations on comfort, minimalism and the play of textiles. Its collections have a distinctive touch inspired by Japanese culture, animation and pop culture figures, which has set it apart from other local proposals. The designs always have a touch of fun, almost as a memory of childhood, which the designer manages to capture in a modern and colorful aesthetic that masterfully unites a work that is taken with seriousness and passion, together with an irreverent mind that does not stop gliding in the possibilities to create with complete freedom.

La diseñadora Loraine Holmes se propuso crear una marca cosmopolita que brindara a la mujer chilena un guardarropa de prendas interesantes pero funcionales, elegantes como divertidas y que a través de ellas pudieran resaltar su feminidad con personalidad e individualidad. Su estética es una mezcla de su visión de la mujer latina y una herencia italiana que adquirió en sus años viviendo en Europa. Sus prendas llenas de contrastes y un cuidado trabajo casi artesanal están destinadas para motivar a las mujeres a salirse de su zona de confort, experimentar de manera creativa y entender que una ocasión especial no es necesaria para sentirse plenamente bella.

Designer Loraine Holmes set out to create a cosmopolitan brand that would provide Chilean women with a wardrobe of interesting but functional garments, elegant as well as fun and that through them they could highlight their femininity with personality and individuality. Her aesthetic is a mixture of her vision of the Latin woman and an Italian heritage that she acquired in her years living in Europe. Her garments full of contrasts and careful, almost artisanal work are designed to motivate women to get out of their comfort zone, experiment creatively and understand that a special occasion is not necessary to feel fully beautiful.

Con base en París, el diseñador chileno Sebastian A. de Ruffray es sin duda un referente de moda en su país gracias a su distinguible creatividad, pasión por la creación y experimentación. Su marca Sevali se caracteriza por re-contextualizar textiles y prendas ya existentes, así como tomar elementos no tradicionales para crear nuevas piezas con carácter conceptual para personas que buscan en la moda algo que la eleve a un plano por encima de las tendencias y prendas de uniforme; los clientes de Sevali buscan una experiencia creativa. En la más reciente colección de la marca se pueden encontrar creaciones construidas con telas de asiento de automóvil, zapatillas, chaquetas de motociclista, bolsos de piel y pañoletas que sin duda elevan el 'upcycling' a una categoría de alta moda.

Based in Paris, Chilean designer Sebastian A. de Ruffray is undoubtedly a benchmark for fashion in his country thanks to his distinctive creativity, passion for creation and experimentation. His brand called Sevali is characterized by re-contextualizing existing textiles and garments, as well as taking non-traditional elements to create new pieces with a conceptual approach for people who are looking for something in fashion that elevates them to a level above the trends and garments of uniformity; Sevali customers seek a creative experience. In the most recent collection of the brand you can find creations made with car seat fabrics, sneakers, motorcycle jackets, leather bags and scarves that undoubtedly elevate upcycling to a high fashion category.

No hay duda que el diseño chileno esta mostrando un rango magnifico de talentos con toda la capacidad de convertirse en nombres establecidos a nivel internacional. Siendo el Fashion Week Panamá un puente para la moda latinoamericana me encantaría ver más diseñadores chilenos venir como invitados pues lo que están haciendo sin duda merece ser visto tanto por los amantes de la moda como por sus colegas. There is no doubt that Chilean design is showing a magnificent range of talents with all the capacity to become established names at an international level. As Fashion Week Panama is a hub for Latin American fashion, I would love to see more Chilean designers come as guests because what they are doing undoubtedly deserves to be seen by both fashion lovers and their colleagues.
